Cover: V-ATPase (labeled with vhaSFD::GFP fusion protein) lines the tubule lumen, but only over principal cells. Nuclei, counterstained with DAPI, are in blue. Another 12 plasma membrane V-ATPase subunits show a similar expression signature to this subunit. This, along with microarray data and phenotypic analysis of flies for which lethal V-ATPase subunit alleles are available, allows for genetic characterization of the plasma membrane V-ATPase in an epithelial tissue. For details, see Allan AK, Du J, Davies SA, and Dow JAT. Genome-wide survey of V-ATPase genes in Drosophila reveals a conserved renal phenotype for lethal alleles. Physiol.
